The nerf has absolutely nothing to do with not being ABLE to farm. Its that you wont get anywhere even remotely close to what you used to get as far as loot goes. I for one am seriously considering WoW(as much as I cant stand the game) because Anet keeps taking everything about GW that I find fun and fluching it down the toilet.

Well this update wasn't all bad, right? At least we have hard mode now. Though, tbh I'm really not in the mood to redo all the missions on my all chars again heh.

Ok seriously though, these updates are killing the GW community that we have right now.

Yep GW is going further and further downhill in my opinion. It used to be fun and I enjoyed it. Now it's one nerf after another that keeps annoying the community. Anet seem to think that we'll keep taking it and settle down eventually because we still want to play.

Newsflash Anet there will come a point that the community will just leave.

Great way to get people onside to buy their expansion later in the year though o_O great marketing strategy - NOT!!!

Anet is trying to force us into pugs. What gets on my nerves about this is that they dont seem to relize that most pugs suck. I stopped pugging because 90% of the time I end up in a noob group to where half the people go left half go right then die somewhere in the middle. Yet if I go with Heroes/hench I get masters everytime first try.

Heres just one example of a pug that totally sucked.

I was in Vinuzah lfg thought id give it a shot and maybe recruit for guild. I said lf MM so this necro invites self and I asked what kind of necro he was. He says....(drumroll) Ranger. Wtf Ask for a MM and the necro is a ranger. This is a pug group for you.
Dont force us into these groups just so we can still only have 1/8th chance at getting a crappy drop and share the 60g that drops.

Another example.

My lvl 14 assassin was in Thirsty River I was lfg and everyone is like oh youre lvl 14 you cant do anything. I told them I can hold my own and kill fast. I found a group of all lvl 20s that let me in. We were at the last 2 groups. everyone died but me, thats right the crappy level 14 alive while all the superior lvl 20s lying flat on there back, I had used my rez already so it was me against the 2 groups. The priest was dead for ranger and the warrior group was left. I managed to wipe out both sides alone on my lvl 14. And That sin has survivor title now. So to recap. PUG all lvl 20 die lvl 14 saves the day. This is what you have to deal with in PUGs. No ty. Heroes ftw.

Amen to that. Heroes ftw! I pretty much hero/henchied all of NF because PUGs are too stinking slow and stupid. The time that it took to finish a mission with a PUG took at least twice as long as I would have done with heroes and henchmen because I knew what to do in the mission but the PUG didn't know what was going on so they delayed everything.

I must admit that PUGs can really suck some times and I hero/hench 85% of my time. However one thing that I like to do is help out the newbies with their missions and show them the ropes. Just a few weeks ago I helped a newbie out in presear who didn't even know how to bring up the map.

Personally I do a moderate amount of farming because I enjoy the challenge and the loot is nice, but with this change I'm not sure if I'll farm much any more. Just for kicks I decided I wanted to play a new class and went with a necro. I played through all of factions without spending anything on weapons, armor, etc. I used nothing but collectors items until I got to House zu Heltzer and was able to buy the armor I wanted there. Even with not spending anything I only had about 5plat in actual gold. That amount won't even get you max armor! Thankfully for me I had money in the bank but if I was a brand new player I'd be very frustrated, and really, how many newbies are going to save their funds for max armor? Most of them upgrade any chance they get (I did with my first char)!

I guess the point of my ramblings is that it's going to make things harder for new players and it will take quiet some time for the "rich" to spend their money in such a way that the economy balances. Personally I think the GW economy is way out of proportion but that's a topic for another time</endRant>

As a ranger*, someone who can't solo farm for shit and who is lucky to get 1 FoW group in 1-2 months, I feel the love from this patch.

*was a ranger for some 18 months and just got my W/Mo up to 20 for some farming><

Rangers can actually farm pretty well. Check out the farming section or just search youtube. You'll find tons of videos

I have a ranger that I love to play and trapping can be a lot of fun (seeing all the fireworks going off followed by lots of numbers and near instant death ) But now that won't be as much fun since the drops will stink.

I have a question... Why do we all suspect that ecto prices will skyrocket? They will simply lose their value as currency since getting FoW Armor has become much harder. People won't be motivated "playing the game normally" (sic) just so that they amass enough gold and materials and ectos to get a FoW armor...

Just a thought...

I must say, one of the best updates so far ANet; v.good job.
I was doing random missions on H/M earlier with friends and they are actually fun now. (Gg to E-burn spikes on Dragon Lair but oh well )

As for the drop changes, soloing is meant to be for the challenge. Loot is a mere bonus. Tbh, if all you're interested in is going through dolyak---> vengeful wep ---> VwK -----> vengeful wep..... over and over for ecto then you need to stop and think about whether you're actually having fun. ~_~ JR's explanation of the new system is correct and is quite fine imo. If you still want to solo (because I admit some H/M places are too hard (as of now anyway) to solo like before) you can still do normal mode. Otherwise, just try running your old build with the help of heroes or real players. I was doing dual monk runs earlier today and, although there definately was a lesser bulk of drops, we still got 2 ectos and a black dye combined.

All in all, QQMOARPLZ and DoA H/M anyone?

My suspicion is getting reaffirm everytime Anet make changes. Why Anet hate farming is not the bots, but their server capacity. Eight players playing solo means eight instances, while eight people playing pugs need only one instance. How else they're going to support their expenses until GW2 arrives?

If not, why only 3 heroes that you can have, not seven? Loot reduction and Hard Mode are ways to force pugs. That what I would also do if I'm Anet. That's the cost of "free" on-line game.

They don't have to, not at all because it's not a requirement or something you need. Don't get it if it's too hard. If it's a welcome challenge, go for it, no matter what.

Me and two friends cleared old ascalon, i got six golds, my friends got four and three (one left early). Not to mention enough purples to fill a charr bag or two. Could of been just luck but either way in terms of the new drop system, i am very happy

Though whether or not dead party members are a way to circumvent this is interesting... I shall investigate.
You can still get drops if you are dead...you would need to have people map out, but A-net may still have that covered.

Since then I have verified that it makes no difference. Regardless of the number of people you have in your party, be it full or just you solo, you will get the relative fraction of drops consistantly. In an 8 man zone you will now *always* get an eighth if the drops. In a four man zone you will *always* get a fourth.
